On Thursday June 24, 2021 via Zoom, I was privileged to be the Convention Chair of the Hawai’i Young Republicans (HYR) very successful organizing convention. The purpose of the convention was to approve the HYR Bylaws and elect leaders. This convention was one of several requirements needed for their National charter which will most likely be on the agenda for the National Federation of Young Republicans annual convention in July.

Congratulations to the elected leaders of the HYRs:

  • Dylan Andrion Chairman
  • Casey Josiah National Committeewoman
  • Jake Pasternak National Committeeman

In his first action as the newly elected HYR Chairman, Dylan appointed to the position of Vice Chairman Schayden Gorai.

The convention was called to order by Hawai’i National Committeewoman Laura Nakanelua and National Federation of Young Republicans Chairman, Rick Loughery was the keynote speaker.

“For the first time in many, many years, Hawai’i is on track to have an official Young Republican organization! The Young Republican mission is to recruit, train and elect the next generation of Republican leaders, ensuring that the future of our party is one we can all be proud of. I’d like to thank Laura Nakanuela for her steadfast support and guidance throughout this process, and Brett Kulbis for presiding at the very successful organizing convention.Young Republicans are building a stronger and better Republican Party and, with everyone’s support, we will be successful in Hawaii, too.”Rick Loughery, National Chairman of the Young Republicans

The convention attendees also heard (via video) from House Minority Leader Val Okimoto and House Minority Floor Leader Lauren Matsumoto, both expressed their excitement about the charter, congratulated the HYRs for their historic convention, and are looking forward to working with them in the future.

Additionally, the convention attendees heard from Tiana Elisara, HYR member, HRP Vice Chair of Communications, and national media celebrity. Tiana gave an extremely upbeat and passionate speech, focusing on why it is so important for this generation to get involved with politics.

With the charter of Hawaii Young Republicans, the National Federation will have chartered organizations in all 50 states.

Congratulation HYRs! We look forward to the great things you’re going to do for Hawaii.
